Nationally Accredited Training
Signature (formerly CACDP) is the accredited Awarding Body for qualifications in Sign Language and other human aids to communication. Signature/CACDP qualifications are accredited by the Qualifications & Curriculum Authority (QCA) into the National Qualifications Framework. Courses that are Signature accredited are shown with *.

Signature/CACDP British Sign Language Level 1
The first part of this course will include an introduction to Deaf Awareness and covers background information about Deaf issues.
The second part of the course will give Learners basic skills in communicating with Deaf people in British Sign Language.
There are practical assessments throughout the course each lasting approximately 5 minutes.
Learners will have the potential of achieving 2 CACDP certificates.
Course Duration: 3 hours per week for 25 weeks

*BSL Level 2
Signature/CACDP British Sign Language Level 2
CACDP British Sign Language Level 2 will enable Learners to communicate with Deaf people in BSL in a range of familiar contexts, using longer and more open-ended exchanges than at BSL Level 1. It gives more insight into BSL expanding vocabulary and introducing a wider range of topics.
Course Duration: 43 weeks

BSL Pre-Level 3
The course content will include:
· Polish up sessions Compound classifiers directional verbs, NMF
· Vocabulary related to Level 3 topics
· Increased knowledge of the grammatical structure and variation of BSL
This course will help you to develop your signing skills in both productive and receptive, which are necessary for the level 3 qualification.
Course Aims:
· To cater for the learning needs of those who have completed Level 2 and wish to prepare to work towards gaining Signature/CACDP Level 3 certificate
· To assist you with extensive and varied vocabulary covering the topics included in Level 3
There will be no formal qualification at the end of this course, but students will receive a certificate of attendance from MSDP.
Course Duration: 24 weeks

Signature/CACDP British Sign Language NVQ Level 3
This course uses National Language Standards which define competence performance in British Sign Language skills , in both Receptive (Listening ) and Productive (Speaking) units.
Successful completion of this qualification can be used as evidence of the language skills needed in order to operate independently and at an advanced level in the target language, and is useful for those who work with Deaf people.
Learners must be able to demonstrate competence at Level 3 before they are register with CACDP.
Learners will be expected to develop a portfolio of evidence that will cover the 6 areas of competence.
Unit Title
- L3: Listen to (understand) varied language in a range of work contexts (receptive)
- S3: Speak (sign) using varied language in a range of work contexts (productive)
Course Duration: 30 hours class/contact time
Course Costs: £1,300

Signature/CACDP British Sign Language NVQ Level 6
MSDP is one of only 4 approved registered NVQ Level 3 & 6 Centres in the North West of England. Signature/CACDP NVQ Level 6 in British Sign Language uses the National Language Standards, which define competent performance in BSL skills both receptive (listening) and productive (speaking) units. To be awarded Level 4 NVQ the candidate must achieve both units.
Entry Requirement: Signature / CACDP Level 3 and/or NVQ Level 3 in BSL
Course Duration: 18 hours class/contact time plus individual tutorials for feedback from evidence clips.

Sensory Awareness

What is involved?
Half day Deaf Awareness and half day Visual Impairment. The duration of each session is approximately 3 hours, including a 15 minute break.
Two trainers, one Deaf, one visually impaired will provide trainees with an understanding of:
- The importance of face to face communication with Deaf people.
- The differences between Deaf and hearing culture.
- Knowledge of how British Sign Language qualifications once gained could benefit any future involvement within the Deaf community.
- Visual impairment and its effects, both psychological and functional.
