News and What's On
- Specsavers staff learning sign language
The Birkenhead and Wallasey branches of Specsavers have a lot of Deaf and hard of hearing customers, and so this month four of their staff have embarked on a six-week sign language course.
They will be working with Sign For Life to learn to sign so that they can converse with our Deaf customers.
A number of the team can already sign basic words and phrases, but this course will be optically themed to allow them to explain changes and developments to the eye and eyesight.
Ken Roberts, Store Director, says: ‘We have many deaf and hard of hearing customers and we want to be able to offer them the same level of service we do to everyone else. ‘Having four of our staff trained in British Sign Language will help to make them feel comfortable and welcome in an environment where we speak their language and they don’t have to struggle to make themselves understood.”
- Text Donate to MSDP
By texting DEAF08 followed by the amount you wish to donate (eg 1.00) to 70070, family, friends and anyone who wants to help with our charity can donate direct to our account. Every single penny comes to Merseyside Society for Deaf People. You can donate from as little as £1.00 to the charity.
An extra 25% will then be added FREE by GIFT AID on the completion of your name and address by a returned confirmation email from Vodafone, so a £1.00 donation will turn into a £1.25 donation to MSDP.
