Mission
"MSDP exists to support, promote and enhance the quality of life for all d/Deaf, Deaf/Blind and Hard of Hearing people."
The mission statement of the Charity has developed and changed over the years as the environment and beneficiary expectations have evolved. The Charity exists as a guiding hand to "support" and "promote" independent living and also as an ambassador for change that will allow Deaf people to access freely the services and career prospects they desire without barriers to hinder their development and contribution in society.
Values
The values of the Charity are important and have assisted in distinguishing the Society from other organisations and being the foundation of its successful growth over the years.
The Charity is there for the community and beneficiaries that it serves and also for the other stakeholders such as local government, education and health authorities that it provides many services on behalf of. The Charity also receives funding from independent trusts and companies to enable it to deliver a wide variety of projects.
As an ambassador of the community and stakeholders it is important the values of the Society are clearly demonstrated on a daily basis. Key values would include:
Being professional in how services are delivered through investing in back office systems; regularly reviewing procedures and controls; and by buying in good quality training for staff.
Anti discriminatory, whether that is in relation to race, sex, disability, religion or age. This is clearly evident in the procedure for selecting new staff and volunteers and in the current make-up of existing staff. MSDP has also commissioned workplace audits to ensure premises are both safe and accessible to all staff and visitors.
Family friendly, MSDP is an organisation that aims to achieve an optimum work/home life balance for both its employees and volunteers and employs several staff on modified hours due to childcare or other reasons.
Investors in people, MSDP has always recognised its number one resource and therefore continues to promote the personal development of individuals by investing in new and regular training courses for its staff.
Environmentally friendly, MSDP promotes the recycling of resources wherever possible and actively encourages the sourcing of materials from eco friendly suppliers.
The Charity may have increased in size over the years and added additional service to its portfolio of involvement but it has retained commitment to the values that make the Charity what it is today.
